FAQ

Maritime Metro Transit FAQs

1.How do I pay for a bus fare?

All fares must be paid in cash with exact change only when paying on board the bus. Tickets and passes may be purchased with either cash or check at the Intermodal Transfer Center. Tickets and passes may also be purchased using a credit or debit card at one of the MMT Sales Outlets (see the list of Sales Outlets on the Fares & Sales Outlet page) or by using the Token Transit App.

2.How do I signal when I want to get off the bus?

Passengers wishing to get off the bus at a particular stop must do so by pulling the "cord" located along the windows on the sides of the bus just after the previous stop is passed. Once the cord is pulled, the front display above the driver will light up and a chime will sound. The driver will pull over at the next available stop and allow you to exit the bus.

3.How do I know when the bus gets to my stop?

Passengers wishing to know the approximate time a bus picks up and drops off at a particular stop may do so by calling the main office. A full list of times and stops is also available for download in the Route Information section of our website. Because of the extensive list of stops, we are unable to publish all stops and times on our maps. We ask that passenger download the file or contact us for more information

4.How do I wait for the bus at a particular stop?

Passengers should wait for the bus at a designated bus stop along the routes. These include the blue bus route signs, designated stop signs, and bus shelters. Passengers should stand and be visible to the driver when the bus approaches your stop. Passengers may flag the driver down but should never run after the bus or hit the bus to grab the driver's attention.

5.Are there special rates for elderly and disabled passengers?

Yes. Elderly and disabled passengers may ride for a reduced fare; however, an approved form of identification, such as a Medicare card or Maritime Metro Transit Reduced Fare Card will be required. Elderly and disabled passengers may get a Maritime Metro Reduced Fare Card at the Intermodal Transfer Center at 915 S 11th St. Monthly passes are also available and include unlimited rides for the calendar month. See the Fares & Sales Outlets page for more information.

6.Is the bus safe to ride?

Yes. Maritime Metro Transit prides itself on having one of the best safety records in the state. Our drivers consistently demonstrate safe practices on and off the road. Maritime Metro averages about one (1) minor at-fault accident a year. In fact, you're 85 times more likely to be injured in a car than riding the bus.

7.Can I travel from Manitowoc to Two Rivers?

Yes. Maritime Metro provides bus service to Manitowoc and Two Rivers. Passengers can easily travel throughout Manitowoc and Two Rivers and even to and from each community. For trip planning between the cities, please contact our main office for route assistance.

8.Am I going to get lost riding the bus?

No. Maritime Metro's routes are designed in a circular or loop pattern. Each route starts and ends at the Transfer Station in downtown Manitowoc. Passengers that board at the station will arrive back at the station if they remain on board for an entire route. Even if you get on the wrong bus, it will return to the Transfer Station so you may get on the correct route the very next run. Route 1 in Two Rivers is also designed the same way except its start and endpoint is at the Transfer Point at Meadow Links. All Maritime Metro drivers and staff are knowledgeable about the routes and can assist in getting you to your destination safely.

9.Are the buses fully accessible?

Yes. All Maritime Metro full-size buses are fully accessible including a powered ramp and securement areas for two mobility devices. The current mini-bus has a securement area for one mobility device. Passengers using a mobility device are welcome aboard Maritime Metro Transit.

10.How long do the buses run?

Maritime Metro operates bus service from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturdays. There is no service on Sundays or Holidays. The office at the Intermodal Transfer Center is open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
